From our phones to tablets, smartwatches – or even our good friend, Alexa. While all these devices add value to our lives, we are also opening ourselves up to online dangers such as scams. According to a study by Social Catfish, victims of online fraud are generally in their 20s and younger. #LatinaGeeks member Cristina Collazos, shared with Noticias Univision 34 about scammer tactics criminals use to steal your information. They range from false influencers all the way to romantic scams. Cristina shared these three tips you can use to help protect your love ones! PARENTAL CONTROLS Set up those parental controls on your child’s phone. From setting a timer on social media apps, to blocking certain content. Don’t know how to do it? You can always buy a phone that has the parental controls in place. TALK WITH YOUR CHILDREN Don’t just block the dangers. Talk to your children about the importance of data and what it is. Remind them to never give out personal information such as home address, name of school, phone number, date of birth, social security number, age, etc., to not only strangers but to the general online public. REPORT THE FRAUD Don’t just let it slide by. If you are a victim of fraud or suspect fraud report it. You can report it on the social media app, go to a consumer page, or file a complaint on the Federal Trade Commission’s website here.
