#LatinaGeeks Day Celebration & Networking – 2023 Recap

On Monday, July 10th, we hosted a special event in San Diego, California, at Mujeres Brew House, a women-run brewery in Barrio Logan founded by two Latinas. The event marked the 4th Anniversary of #LatinaGeeks Day and brought together over 60 members of our diverse community of Latinas and allies. It was a memorable evening that served as a celebration of our organization's achievements thus far.  During this special gathering, we took the opportunity to honor the impactful work of our organization and express gratitude to our remarkable community, who have supported us throughout the years. Diana Jurado Fuentes, the City Clerk representing the city of San Diego, played a vital role by officially proclaiming July 10th, 2023, as the official "#LatinaGeeks Day" in San Diego. This recognition adds significance to our event and reinforces the value we bring to the city.  The evening started with #LatinaGeeks Board Member Ana Reyes giving a background of how far the San Diego Chapter has come since its inception in 2019. #LatinaGeeks’ Cofounder, Lala Castro, then guided us through the mission and vision of #LatinaGeeks and offered insights on why it was important to start the organization and the impact it has made on our Latina tech community. We then proceeded to introduce some of our San Diego Chapter leaders, including Suzy Reyes, Ruby Sherman, and Elvia Sedano, who lead all San Diego Chapter programming efforts and played a pivotal role in organizing the celebration.  Also in attendance were #LatinaGeeks Board Members Kimbra Brookstein and Tony Herrera, Committee Members Jericho Lopez and Gabby Baker, in addition to our representatives from our sponsor companies at Autodesk, WGU, Intuit, ResMed, and ESET- who were all there to show their support and contribute to the significance for this momentous occasion.    During the event, we made an exciting announcement about our upcoming Women in Tech Festival: Latinas Leading the Way. This one-day conference will take place in San Diego on November 4, 2023. The festival aims to celebrate and highlight Latinas who are currently working in or pursuing careers in technology. Our goal is to inspire, engage, and empower other women in the field.  The event will attract a diverse range of 150+ attendees, including recruiters, entrepreneurs, business leaders, technologists, corporate representatives, university students, members of the media, and many more. We will soon be sharing the registration link, allowing interested individuals to secure their spots at the festival. It promises to be a transformative experience that showcases the achievements and potential of Latinas in the tech industry and provides a platform for connections, learning, and recruitment efforts.  We extend a heartfelt thank you to Mujeres Brew House for graciously hosting this unforgettable evening and for generously donating a percentage of the beer sales to our organization. Our gratitude also goes out to the incredible @barracrudasd, who delighted us with delicious tacos, ceviche, and elotes. Additionally, a special shout-out to @lavidaaida for keeping the fun vibes alive with an incredible DJ performance throughout the night.  Muchas gracias to all the volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who attended the event to celebrate and show their support.
